With a little planning, there are ways to support counseling and residential care programs for at-risk youth far into the future, too. As you’re considering your end-of-life planning, you may wish to include a planned gift to Rawhide, such as a bequest, beneficiary designation, charitable remainder trust or charitable gift annuity.

Create a legacy of helping at-risk youth find hope
There are many ways to help Rawhide throughout your life.
Types of Planned Gifts
Choosing the right planned gift depends on your personal circumstances and financial goals. Your attorney or financial advisor can help you coordinate a planned gift to Rawhide. We also would be happy to explain the many gift opportunities that can help you achieve your goals while helping to sustain Rawhide’s mission.
A charitable bequest is a provision in your will or estate plan that allocates all or part of your estate to Rawhide. The amount left to Rawhide can be expressed as a dollar amount or as a percentage of the assets to be given. Charitable bequests are popular because they offer flexibility and allow you to minimize death taxes and other costs, resulting in more assets for your heirs. Bequest Language: The official bequest language for Rawhide is: “I <Name> of <City, State, Zip>give and bequeath to Rawhide, Inc. <$________or %_________ of my estate>, to be utilized for <general use or name restricted purpose>.
Consider making Rawhide your named beneficiary from retirement plan assets, such as an IRA, 401K, 403(b) or other defined contribution plans. Gifting a retirement plan account or benefit will cause no income tax to be paid on the funds in the account.
Life insurance policies can provide several options for making a meaningful and substantial charitable gift to Rawhide:
- You may name Rawhide as the beneficiary, or partial beneficiary of a life insurance policy. There is no income tax benefit with this option but there may be an estate tax benefit.
- You may name Rawhide as owner of an existing life insurance policy that is no longer needed. Tax deductions may be equal to the policy’s replacement value.
- You may purchase a new policy and name Rawhide as owner AND beneficiary. The premiums you pay are fully tax deductible. At death, Rawhide receives the insurance proceeds.
A Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) is an arrangement whereby you transfer cash or other assets (appreciated stock) to Rawhide in exchange for a commitment by Rawhide to pay a fixed amount to you and/or another beneficiary for life. At the death of the beneficiary, the remaining balance transfers to Rawhide.
Charitable Trusts are a category of planned gifts that provide a variety of benefits to donors and Rawhide. The common factor is that they are legally established as trusts, which are financial tools to hold and administer funds for the benefit of a person or organization. Some of the most common Charitable Trust vehicles include:
- Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRTs): This trust is a life income gift. You transfer either cash or other assets (appreciated stock) into a remainder trust, which is irrevocable. You will receive a charitable deduction for a portion of the transfer, and you or a beneficiary will receive a fixed amount for the rest of your life or a set term of years, as a fixed percentage of the trust’s value, which can fluctuate. Upon the death of the beneficiary, the remaining assets are transferred to Rawhide.
- Charitable Lead Trust (CLTs): This trust makes an annual payment to Rawhide for your life or a set period of years. At the end of the term, the remaining assets go to you or your heirs.
A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a vehicle established at a public charity. Most major investment organizations allow you to create a DAF, as well as most local community foundations.
A DAF allows you to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax benefit and then recommend grants from the fund over time. An easy way to think about a DAF is like a charitable savings account: you contribute to the fund as frequently as you like and then recommend grants to Rawhide or other charities when you are ready.

Planned gifts can be designated through a will or living trust, life insurance policy, retirement account, charitable trust, donor advised fund, or charitable gift annuity.
Often, these meaningful gifts go unrecognized because they come at the end of a donor’s life. The #15 League is our way of acknowledging your commitment to Rawhide’s future—today.
Becoming a member is simple—include Rawhide as a beneficiary of a planned gift and notify us of your intent. We’ll add your name to the #15 League in honor of your dedication to Rawhide’s future.
