At just 15 years old, Kolbe has experienced a transformation that will shape his future. Before coming to Rawhide, Kolbe lived with his parents, two older brothers, and three younger sisters. When reckless decision-making led to unfortunate circumstances, he came to Rawhide in July 2023.

Since arriving, his journey has been one of personal growth and self-discovery. At first, Kolbe felt nervous and reserved. Over time, he adapted to his new environment, finding comfort in the supportive staff. “Getting to know new people has changed me,” he shared. “I listen more and am more respectful than I was back home.” Through forming connections and engaging in various activities, Kolbe has experienced significant personal change.

One of his favorite aspects of Rawhide is the kindness and care shown by the staff and fellow students. He’s also passionate about playing on the basketball team, All-Starrs—including a recent game where he scored over 20 points. “When watching the game, I knew he was in it to win it and never gave up. I’ve seen him persevere on and off that court,” said Ms. Michelle, Starr Academy Principal.

Beyond sports, Kolbe is actively involved in various programs, including our career development job training class and assisting with on-campus activities. His participation in therapy with Ms. Tina has also played a crucial role in his growth. “I’ve learned to express my feelings more,” said Kolbe. “If I’m upset, I need to be open and tell someone.”

Looking ahead, Kolbe remains motivated by his family and friends back home. He is proud of how far he has come in his program and values the lessons he has learned, particularly in decision-making. By taking time to think before acting, he has developed a more thoughtful approach to life.

Once Kolbe completes his program, he aspires to play football and basketball, with a vision of building a future that brings him happiness. Kolbe hopes to be remembered for his strong work ethic and commitment to supporting others. His ability to uplift others with a simple smile or fist bump has left a lasting impact on Rawhide staff and youth.

Kolbe’s message to donors: “Thank you for helping us. We’re able to learn life lessons and can help others.”
