Hello! My name is Blake and I want to share my Rawhide journey. I am 16 years old and was born in Rhinelander, WI, and lived with my mom, grandma and siblings. I left home 4 years ago and was in and out of group homes and foster care. I was angry a lot and didn’t understand why. When I first got to Rawhide I felt like I may never get to go home again. I was nervous, Therapy helped me understand myself and during my time here, I have learned to build trust with my mom and siblings again. I have felt less angry and I feel excited to go back home. My first goal when I leave Rawhide is to get my driver’s license. Long term, I am passionate to become a nurse so I can help others. My favorite part of Rawhide is the relationships I have built with staff. Many of them have become like big brothers to me. I have also enjoyed many fun activities at Starr Academy including being a part of the basketball team and participating in several contests. Within my first month at Rawhide, I showed a hidden talent of mine and ended up winning two contests. I wrote a song and a poem. I think I earned Student of the Month because of my hard work in school and in my program. My goal of going home to my mom and brothers motivated me to do the hard work and believe that I am a good person. I am most proud of the relationship I rebuilt with my mom while at Rawhide. Sincerely, Blake Share: Please enable JavaScript to view the comments powered by Disqus.
